THE STAFF OF THE EU INSTITUTIONS BRANDED AS DRUG ADDICT!
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !
In our previous communications to President Metsola we have already underlined the dramatic consequences of Quatagate for the reputation and honour of the European civil service and above all for the staff of the EP.
And we have appreciated the assurances offered by President Metsola concerning her firm determination to adopt all measures to shed light on the matter and to defend the staff from any attack.
In this context, we are once again obliged to request the intervention of our President.
THE STAFF OF THE EU INSTITUTIONS BRANDED AS DRUG ADDICT!
As denounced by all the Commission’s trade unions in their attached letter to Commissioner Hahn, at a meeting chaired by the Director of the Commission’s OIB (Office Infrastructure Brussels) on the subject of the relocation of the Executive Agencies to the Northern Quarter, Pascal Smet, Secretary of State for the Brussels-Capital Region, responsible for Urban Planning, made some absolutely outrageous remarks about the European civil service.
Pascal Smet stated that the fears expressed about security and crime in the northern district were inadmissible because ““I think a lot of people working for the European Institutions take drugs.” (sic!)… without forgetting to specify that “in Schuman they are dealing drugs too. And probably not the same drugs they are dealing there, but probably a little bit whiter” (sic!).
With the Director of the OIB chairing the meeting, he carried on as if nothing had happened without asking Pascal Smet to immediately withdraw such outrageous remarks and apologise on the spot.
And when contacted by Politico, Pascal Smet did not deny having made such absolutely intolerable remarks Eurocrats are on drugs! Brussels city planning boss slams EU over reluctance to move offices – POLITICO
Comments which are now widely reported in the press.
Unsurprisingly, we have already been overwhelmed by complaints from colleagues who have been outraged by these intolerable statements calling for our intervention to ensure, according to Article 24 of the Staff Regulations, that the honor and reputation of our staff are properly restored.
In view of the above, we call on President Metsola to defend the reputation and honourability of our staff by asking Pascal Smet to withdraw his insulting words that are absolutely unacceptable and to apologize without delay!
