The phenomenon of harassment
at the workplace is becoming increasingly widespread. The causes
of harassment are many, and often attest to a lack of solidarity,
cooperation and respect for one another.
Staff in our Institution are not immune from these practices. They are ambiguous
and complex, but hard to pin down because of the difficulty in adducing proof.
In fact, the practices are mainly based on persistent, subtle dynamics that involve
the psychological destructuring of the target person.
It is for this reason that the trade unions have had harassment incorporated
into the new Staff Regulations.
R&D is
fully aware of the seriousness of the issue, and has opened a drop-in
centre to cater for colleagues who are the subject of harassment.
The centre is staffed by colleagues who have themselves been on the receiving
end of harassment.
Their work is completely confidential.
The list of people you can approach in confidence on this matter is available
on request.
